2020 C.I.T.N Council Election: Nomination of Candidates.

2020 COUNCIL ELECTION: NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES 


This is to inform all members that pursuant to the provisions of Schedule 1, Paragraph 5 of the Institute’s Act No. 76 of 1992 relating to the conduct of elections into Council, four (4) seats would become vacant. The following members of Council will retire at the 2020 Annual General Meeting scheduled to hold on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, three (3) of whom are eligible for re-election in accordance with Section 1, Paragraph 5 of the First Schedule to the CITN Act, except Prof. Olateju Abiola Somorin who has spent the mandatory three years after her tenure as President in Council.


The retiring Members are:
1. Prof. Olateju Abiola Somorin, FCTI
2. Mr. Kolawole Ezekiel Babarinde, FCTI
3. Mr. Ademola Stephen Makinde, FCTI
4. Chief Davidson Chizuoke Alaribe, FCTI


All intending contestants should acquaint themselves with the following election parameters:


1. Intending contestants should be members who can add value to the goals and objectives of the Institute; knowledgeable, experienced and whose specialisation is in any of the following areas:
• Tax practice
• Tax administration
• Education
• Research
• Economics
• Law
• Political science
• Accounting/ forensic accounting


2. An aspirant must be honest, committed and demonstrate integrity. Aspirants must present two (2) letters of attestation to this effect.


3. An aspirant should be of sound mind.


4. An aspirant must be an active member of any of the Institute’s District Societies. This shall be confirmed in the appropriate space on the application form by the Chairman of the District Society.


5. Members seeking election to Council must have attended at least one (1) MPTP or attained 15 credit hours in the year prior to the election year.


6. Payment of dues, levies and subscription must be consistent for a period of not less than 5 years.


7. As a professional Institute championing tax compliance and accountability, candidates are encouraged to attach their evidence of tax payments up to date.


8. An aspirant to Council should not have been found guilty of a financial crime or financially bankrupt.


9. An aspirant must not be seen to have violated the Institute’s Code of Conduct.


10. As a professional Institute, all forms of electioneering campaigns are discouraged.


Completed Nomination Forms (AS ATTACHED), which should reach the Secretariat on or before Tuesday, March 31, 2020 must be accompanied with two (2) passport sized photographs (white background) of each candidate, duly certified by one of the sponsors.
