2021 COUNCIL ELECTION: NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES


This is to inform all members that pursuant to the provisions of Schedule 1, Paragraph 5 of the Institute’s Act No. 76 of 1992 relating to the conduct of elections into Council, four (4) seats would become vacant. The following members of Council will retire at the 2021 Annual General Meeting scheduled to hold on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, and the four (4) are eligible for re-election in accordance with Section 1, Paragraph 5 of the First Schedule to the CITN Act.


The retiring Members are:


1. Dr. (Mrs.) Justina Adaku Okoror, FCTI
2. Rev. Benjamin Akanji Omonayajo, FCTI
3. Mr. Muhammad Kabir Umar, FCTI
4. Mr. Igho Otejiri Orienru, FCTI


All intending contestants should acquaint themselves with the following election parameters:


1. Intending contestants should be members who can add value to the goals and objectives of the Institute; knowledgeable, experienced and whose specialisation is in any of the following areas:
 - Tax practice
 - Tax administration
 - Education
 - Research
 - Economics
 - Law
 - Political science
 - Accounting/ forensic accounting
2. An aspirant should be of sound mind.
3. An aspirant must be an active member of any of the Institute’s District Societies. This shall be confirmed in the appropriate space on the application form by the Chairman of the District Society.
4. Members seeking election to Council must have attended at least one (1) MPTP or attained 15 credit hours in the year prior to the election year.
5. Payment of dues, levies and subscription must be consistent for a period of not less than 5 years.
6. As a professional Institute championing tax compliance and accountability, candidates are encouraged to attach their evidence of tax payments up to date.
7. An aspirant to Council should not have been found guilty of a financial crime or financially bankrupt.
8. An aspirant must not be seen to have violated the Institute’s Code of Conduct.
9. As a professional Institute, all forms of electioneering campaigns are discouraged.
10. Application received from courier must be received with slip of dispatch date attached.


Completed Nomination Forms (AS ATTACHED), which should reach the Secretariat on or before 5pm on Friday March 26, 2021 must be accompanied with two (2) passport sized photographs (white background) of each candidate, duly certified by one of the sponsors.
