Inauguration of Nigerian Academy of Taxation


Please be informed that the Council of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has approved the establishment of the Nigerian Academy of Taxation (NAT) as a leading Academy of professional development and research on taxation in Africa and beyond. The NAT board will be fully inaugurated on March 5, 2015.


NAT Vision
To be the leading Academy of professional development and research on taxation in Africa and beyond.


NAT Mission 
i. To raise the professional competency of the tax profession in Nigeria through up to date tax education (without prejudice to the Institute’s organised Mandatory Professional Training Programme). 
ii. To provide a platform for the analysis of emergent taxation challenges and opportunities in order to regularly upgrade and update the knowledge and practice of taxation in Nigeria. 
iii. To carry out research and policy analysis on how to constantly improve taxation and performance of tax professionals.
iv. To promote taxation stakeholders’ dialogue and networking aimed at improving CITN’s contribution to fiscal performance of the Nigerian economy.


NAT Objectives
The objective is to provide students who already hold degree in Taxation and related fields, an opportunity to gain more expertise in the field of Taxation. Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Taxation of Nigerian Academy of Taxation is designed to provide individuals with the conceptual understanding of sound Technical knowledge required to compete successfully in the ever changing Tax world.


Being the Premier Provider of Tax Education
The Nigerian Academy of Taxation would deliver high standard of professional and Post-Graduate Tax Education for Tax Professionals among other objectives which include:
i. It would provide structured tax training that forms the essential building blocks in tax education from foundational to advanced level; and
ii. It would partner with leading local and regional bodies and institutions to deliver high quality tax programs.


Being an emergent Regional Tax Knowledge Hub
The Nigerian Academy of Taxation would enhance professional capacity for cross-border tax work:
i. It would provide international tax training; and 
ii. It would enable tax professionals to be updated on tax developments within Nigeria and beyond.


Being a Platform for Exchange of Tax Knowledge 
The Nigerian Academy of Taxation would offer unique opportunities for the exchange of tax knowledge and views between the government, industry, academia and within the profession.
It would create opportunities for government officials, local and overseas tax practitioners and academia, to share information on tax issues.
